The phonetic alphabet is the language of the ̒written spoken̓. Every documented phoneme is assigned its own corresponding symbol. Therefore it is hard to read the phonetic description with no background knowledge. The language is only possible to read fluently if you study it.
How can type design bridge the gap between the written and spoken word without requiring a former study?
Pronutaip is a transcription system which is applied as a font. The font visualizes words and sounds in the way a native speaker has learned the sounds connected to specific letters in his or her mother tongue. In this example the English language is transcribed using the existing parts of the alphabet like the phonetic alphabet does, but only using the learned German sounds for these letter parts. The system is able to be used for any transcription from/to any existing spoken language.
This solution fulfills its purpose by just looking at a word ones, and will not require previous study because the visible transcription is already connected to the knowledge of the viewing person.
Because Pronutaip is a font, it can be used as such. It is a font with three styles, the common written english, the english phonetic transcription and the german transcription (pronutaip german english).
